Beacon Hill Country Park in Leicestershire offers a diverse and beautiful experience throughout the year, suitable for the whole family, with good paths making the site accessible in all weather conditions and easily navigable with children's buggies. It is also dog friendly.
For visitor convenience, the park has two separate car parks: the Upper Car Park, which is closest to the summit and the livestock grazing areas, and the Lower Car Park, which is near the Labyrinth, Natural Play Area, and the Beacon Hill Café. Toilets, disabled toilets, and baby change facilities are available at both car parks. (Note: Parking charges apply at both locations)
The park's ecology is actively managed through conservation grazing, where mixed herds of cattle and some endangered sheep graze the heathland and meadows. Alpacas, which are native to South America and naturally protective, have been introduced to watch over the sheep and can be found grazing in the upper areas of Beacon Hill during the summer months.
A walk along the trails through the woodlands is special at any time, in the spring, you can watch out for beautiful carpets of Bluebells, typically peaking in late April to early May; during the summer months, wildflower meadows add splashes of color and attract a host of bees, butterflies, and other pollinating insects, such as the Meadow Brown and Common Blue; and later in the year, you can enjoy the vivid colors of autumn.
Visitors are reminded to enjoy the countryside responsibly, following the Leave No Trace ethos, which includes keeping dogs on a short lead when near any of the livestock, particularly the protective alpacas and the cattle.
