This scenic circular walk from Wilne Lane car park offers a fantastic route for walkers exploring the historic Derwent Mouth and Shardlow area. The trail begins by following the picturesque footpath alongside the Trent & Mersey Canal, a route known for its charming narrowboats and rich history as a major inland port.
The walk's highlight is where the path meets Derwent Mouth, the confluence of the River Trent and River Derwent. Here, you'll cross a bridge over the River Trent, offering stunning views before continuing along the riverside footpath back towards the village of Shardlow. The final section of the route is along the road, leading you back to the starting point.
Please be aware that this walk crosses farmland with potential livestock, and sections can be wet and muddy, especially after rain. We recommend wearing sturdy, waterproof footwear for this enjoyable countryside ramble.
